What is the National English Honor Society?
The Sigma Lambda chapter of NEHS, established at WCHS in 2014, is an organization designed to honor and encourage students who are passionate about language and literature. Members will enjoy the fellowship of like-minded individuals while partaking in cultural experiences, academic pursuits, community service projects, and awareness campaigns, all of which will raise the profile of the English Language Arts locally and nationally.
In what kinds of activities will NEHS engage?
-Biweekly after-school meetings
-Community service and outreach
-Monthly Intellectual Development and Enrichment Activities (I.D.E.A.s), such as book talks, literature discussion, film / dramatic performance review, etc.
What criteria must one meet in order to be eligible for membership in NEHS?
-Successful completion of a minimum of two (2) complete semesters at WCHS
-No EOY grade lower than a B in any English course or elective
-3.0 or higher cumulative unweighted GPA
-Completed application with two (2) teacher recommendations (one past English teacher and one present English teacher)
-Payment of nonrefundable annual dues: $25
What must one do to maintain membership?
-Attend biweekly meetings (and keep abreast of NEHS events and activities)
-Earn 20 points per school year by attending meetings and participating in NEHS events and activities
How does one earn points?
Attend a meeting 1 point
I.D.E.A.s 1 point per half hour of active participation
Fundraiser Events 1 point per half hour of active participation
Community Service / Outreach Activity 1 point per half hour of active participation
